Mold and Mildew Problems in our Motorhome, and how does it affect my health
I think I have found the culprit to contributing to or the cause of my sickness. Mold and Mildew! It grows under my bed on the overhead bunk in our motorhome.
I have been suffering from Cold Urticaria and then Sinus headaches since December. I can't seem to get rid of them. I'm so glad I found this, now I can get rid of it and hopefully my sickness will go as well. I have a weak immune system or auto immune compromised. So, no matter how much healthy supplements, foods, vitamins I take, it's not going be enough to stop unless I can get rid of what's triggering it.
Mold found under the crates under my bed. I used the crates for airflow to prevent mold but that didn't work. |
What can mold and mildew do to your health?
Mold and mildew can cause major health problems if left unchecked. They are often found in damp, humid areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and attics. Mold and mildew can cause respiratory issues, allergies, skin irritations, and other health problems.
What is Mold and Mildew?
Mold is a type of fungus that typically grows in areas with high humidity and moisture. It often appears as dark spots or patches on walls or other surfaces.
Mildew is another type of fungi that usually appears as white or grayish patches on surfaces. Both mold and mildew can cause health problems if they are not treated properly.

How to clean up Mold & Mildew?
- Using natural ingredients, such as vinegar, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide is always a better way to kill the mold spores and prevent them from coming back.
- You can also use bleach or ammonia but NEVER mix it or use it together because it will produce a poisonous gas. You will have a bigger problem than the Mold and Mildew if you use bleach and ammonia together.
- Make sure you have windows and or doors open for air flow. You want that mold in the air to go out of your home.
- Use gloves and mask when cleaning the area.
After I cleaned the affected area, I spread baking soda then placed the crates back. I will be monitoring it frequently to make sure there'll be no mold or mildew presence here. |
Here's what I did to clean up
- I filled a spray bottle with white vinegar and I added salt.
- Sprayed the area before I moved the crates.
- Opened up windows and waited for few minutes.
- Removed crates and sprayed some more vinegar solutions and waited for another several minutes.
- Wipe down everything then spray some more and waited
- Keep wiping the areas then air it out again.
- After few hours, I used Clorox wipes to wipe everything and let it air out and dry.
- Spread baking soda.
- Place the crates back with baking soda under it.
- I placed some moisture absorber on both ends of the overhead bunk and dehumidifier nearby.
