One of the privileges of living in Fairbanks Alaska is the enjoyment of watching the northern light shows during the long winter season. Most of the time, I don't even have to leave my home. Even though I live right in town with lights pollution I still can see the northern lights dancing in the sky right above my house.

What is Aurora Borealis?
Aurora Borealis also known as Northern Lights are the lights that happened when the particles released from the sun and strike the earth atmosphere also known as
geomagnetic storm. It's an incredible light show with many colors but green is the most common.

I was getting ready for bed when I checked the window for one last time and this is what I saw. Amazing Northern lights dancing in the sky above my neighbors house

Sometimes my family and I will go out for a drive far away from town to see a better northern lights show. However, most of the time northern light display happens late at night or early morning, which is hard for me to stay up especially when I have to work the next day. But I always see them every year anyways.
Our winter season might be long but that also give us a long opportunity to watch and enjoy the Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights shows.

Fairbanks gets a lot of visitors from all over the world during winter. They come here and spend a lot of money in a short time hoping they'll see northern lights display. They want to experience the magical colored light dancing in the sky. However, sometimes the clouds and snow gets in the way and that's a bummer.

I signed up on a group in Facebook called
Aurora Borealis Notification Group. It's a great group for northern lights update. Whenever I'm awake late at night, I'd checked that page to see if I should get up, get out or stay in bed and go back to sleep. Here's another site I'd go to check for aurora borealis updates:

I am not great at capturing the Aurora Borealis or Northern lights show but I'm happy with what I got. Most of my pictures were taken using just my cellphone. I do have a friend who does northern lights photography and she does it really well. Here is her page on facebook page
